The Blues, like all N-SSA member organizations, has a campground and cabins at the N-SSA home range in Northern Virginia. This photo is taken in front of the communal meeting pavilion. The Delaware Blues consists of approximately 30 members scattered over eight states (currently Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Indiana). We attend about ten skirmishes per year; approximately five at Fort Shenandoah, Virginia (the N-SSA home range) and five locally. We are not an reenactment unit, though some of our members do reenactments as well.
In addition to our skirmishing activities, we also sponsor an on-going series of cowboy action shooting matches at our range near Quinton, New Jersey.
The club owns its own shooting range on a 30-acre property near Salem in southern New Jersey. There is a one-hundred-yard by one-hundred-yard rifle range, with adjacent twenty-five-yard and fifty-yard pistol ranges. There is also a forty-foot section of the firing line that is enclosed in plastic panels and is heated during cold weather; our shooting activities can continue right through the winter months.
The philosophy of the unit is simple: to be a competitive rifle club, that at the same time has fun. You do not have to be a good shot, or even have ever shot Civil War-era firearms, to join the club. If you wish to develop your marksmanship skills, however, we will be happy to work with you on becoming a better shot.
Membership is open to men and women fifteen-years-old and older.
If you are interested in joining us, please contact our recruiting representative, Mike Benson.
